School History

Thank you for your interest in Showers International High School. I am pleased to give you a brief history of the school. My name is Ekama Emilia Akpan, Pioneer Founder of the School and presently the Managing Director.

Showers International High School is an offshoot of Showers Educational Support Services, started in 1995 as a tutorial Center to help the children to upgrade their results in order to get admissions in good universities within and outside the country.  The concentration then was in the British Curriculum - via the Cambridge International Examination (CIE) conducted through the British Council in Port Harcourt. We offered lessons initially for the O levels and later progressed to the A levels.

We started with 3 students, and their results were impressive.  The best had 3 B's and 2 C's.  Since then we have improved significantly.

Over 200 students passed through the tutorial center until 1997 when pressure from external bodies, caused us to make a formal request to open up to WAEC and NECO examinations.  Formal registration from the Ministry of Education was granted thereafter.

The school formally inaugurated as Showers International High School in November of 2004 with 25 students.  This had 100% pass in the JSS3 examination conducted by the state with 2 of them scoring the maximum of 12 A''s.  The least had 2 A's and 10 Credits.

OUR VISION
Our school encourages and facilitates the spiritual, intellectual, physical development of each student for the glory of God. We strive to bring out the best out of our students.  Our approach to education has helped our students obtain outstanding results, not only academically but spiritually and morally.

Students taking the A-levels for the first time and those repeating have gained places in most competitive degree courses including medicine, Law, and Engineering. Due to the young ages of students attained by the time they get to SS3, we have from 2009, insisted that all must go through the 2 year program for the A levels.

We observed that despite some of them being academically competent, some have difficulties in confronting challenges when they occur as they go on to the universities, especially in North American Universities.  We feel they will perform better if they get to the universities more matured, in studies and in attitude hence the decision for the Alevels stop gap.

Great emphasis is placed on helping students develop latent talent and confidence to defend their work and result. We believe God has deposited something positive in each of HIS creatures.  We strive therefore to encourage the development of the salient talent in each child.  We encourage the average to be good, and the good to be excellent.

Cheating is not an option in Showers International.  We believe that as future leaders, we must instill the need of hard work, integrity and fear of God in these youths.

We are conscious of the need of spiritual foundation, hence a zero tolerance for Examination Malpractice.  Any result a student gets in the final examination must be defendable.  A failure is admissible as a need of improvement, and therefore is not seen as a weakness.

Our policy on the above have seen our students going on to do well, in most of their academic pursuits.

Recently, our student Samuel Barango attempted the AS in his final year at the Secondary Class of SS3 and did well to merit BCD.  He is representing the State in Chemistry at the National level.

Exceptional students will be programmed in future to take advanced examination to aid admission processes abroad.
